On October 8, on the feast of the repose of St. Sergius, Abbot of Radonezh, the Divine Liturgy was held in the Assumption Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra, headed by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
His Holiness was served by Metropolitan Nikandr of Vladimir and Suzdal, Bishop Kirill of Sergiev-Posad and Dmitrov, as well as representatives of the Alexandria and other Local Churches – Bishop Stefan of Remesian, Archimandrite Seraphim (Shemyatovsky) and Archpriest Daniel Andreyuk. The deacon rank was headed by Protodeacon Vladimir Nazarkin.
The liturgical chants were sung by the brotherly choir of the TSL under the direction of hieromonk Nestor (Volkov) and reader Varlaam Borisov. The archimandrite Taurion (Ivanov) preached to the believers.
After the Liturgy, the Patriarch made a prayer service at the icon of St. Sergius and donated a banner with the image of the saint to the Lavra. Then Vladyka bowed to the relics in the Trinity Cathedral and the Serapionov Chamber. In conclusion, church awards were presented to bishops, clergy and laity who worked for the good of the Church.
