Authorities to tighten control over social networks for one reason

The French government intends to block social networks that do not remove publications calling for rebellion and violence. Le Figaro reports.

According to the amendment to the bill, Internet platforms will be required to remove materials calling for terrorist attacks, rebellion or armed struggle against the state within an hour.

In case of non-compliance with the requirements, the authorities will be able to seek the blocking of social networks or their exclusion from the search results. It is also proposed to expand the powers of the Pharos platform to detect illegal content.

The initiative was prepared after mass riots on October 17. According to the Interior Ministry, 550,000 people participated in the actions.
