Instead of vodka, sport

Refusal of alcohol in some villages of Kazakhstan has ceased to be a single initiative

Instead of vodka, sport

A positive example

In 2026, new remote regions join the movement. For example, in the Kyzylorda region, the number of such villages reached 37, in Mangystau another four villages voluntarily refused hot drinks. For local residents, this is not just a refusal to sell alcohol, but an attempt to create a safer environment, reduce the number of domestic conflicts and offenses, and most importantly, change the conditions in which young people grow up.

This is the path chosen in the village of Taldy Shetsky district of Karaganda region. Here, district inspector Mukhamedkali Saduakasov believes that the prevention of offenses should begin not with protocols and punishments, but with uniting residents, raising children and creating opportunities for them to play sports, the press service of the police department of the region reported.

Not punishment, but conviction. n

A local police inspector can not only monitor the order, but also change the life of the whole village. This was proved by our hero Mukhamedkali Saduakasov, who started with the main thing - security, unity of residents and the future of local children.

The administrative center of the rural district of Taldy was founded in 1968. More than 500 people live here today. Most of the villagers are engaged in livestock and agriculture. As in any village, there are problems. One of the main is the prevention of cattle theft. It is from this direction that Mukhamedkali Saduakasov began his work after his appointment as a district inspector in March this year. However, he quickly realized that it was impossible to ensure order with raids and preventive conversations alone.

The police captain began his service in the internal affairs bodies in 2012 in the special purpose rapid response unit. He successfully applies the experience gained not only in the fight against offenses, but also in their prevention.

Together with representatives of the local executive authorities and elders, the police organized work on crime prevention. One result was that the people of Talda united around a common idea and refused to drink alcohol.

- Today, the prevention of cattle theft is relevant in the village. In this direction, together with representatives of local executive bodies, we held a number of events. This work is now in place. But we understand that security is not only the fight against already committed crimes. Thanks to the unity of the inhabitants, our village became alcohol-free, says Mukhamedkali Saduakasov.

Good district - to improve the criminal situation

The policeman decided not to stop there. He drew attention to how teenagers and young people spend their free time after school. I came to a simple conclusion: if children have the opportunity to play sports, develop and set goals for themselves, the likelihood that they will be involved in illegal actions is much lower. So the idea was to open a sports hall in the village.

Mukhamedkali Saduakasov appealed to the akim of the Taldin rural district and proposed to convert the empty room. The idea was picked up with enthusiasm.

Today, a hall has appeared in the village where local guys can play sports and train under the guidance of a person who knows about martial arts firsthand. After all, Mukhamedkali Saduakasov himself is a master of sports in combat sambo.

- I have been practicing this style of self-defense for years without weapons. I always wanted to open a room where I could pass on my knowledge to my children. For me, this is not just a sports facility. This is a place where children will be able to spend their free time with benefit, nurture character, discipline and willpower. If in the future there are grown-up boys who will stand guard over law and order, I will consider that my work was not in vain.

The opening of the sports hall was an event for the whole village. The event was attended by the heads of the police department of the Karaganda region and the district police department, akim of the district, representatives of local authorities, elders and residents of Talda.

Akim of the Talda rural district Nurlan Abzhanov noted that the initiative of the district inspector received support precisely because it was aimed at the future of children.

- Three months ago, Muhamedkali Saduakasov approached us with a proposal to create a sports hall for young people. We supported this initiative. We're seeing results today. I believe that this is a great contribution to the education of the younger generation. I thank the leadership of the district police department and the police department of the Karaganda region for their assistance, Nurlan Abzhanov said.

For the policeman himself, opening the hall is only the beginning. During the years of service, he took part in various sports competitions and achieved high results. Now he wants to see more of these winners among rural children.

Prevention begins in childhood

Judging by the reaction of the young residents of Talda, they liked the idea.

- Since Muhamedkali came to work with us, our village has become alcohol-free. And now there is also a sports hall for young people. We're very happy. I would like there to be more people who think about the future of the village and children, said Aidar Kamiyev, a resident of Talda.

Talda is the birthplace of our hero. For Muhamedkali Saduakasov, service here has become more than an official duty. He returned to where he was once a child to create the conditions for those who are just beginning their journey. And perhaps it is in this small rural gym that a new champion will one day grow up. Or maybe a future policeman, who, like his mentor, will choose the path of service to people, the police department of the Karaganda region is sure.

Now in the new hall, the space is filled with a special life: training, competitions and first achievements. The policeman is ready to transfer not only sports skills, but also the principles of discipline, responsibility and respect for others.

Perhaps this approach is one of the most effective forms of prevention – not waiting for a teenager to face a problem, but giving him the opportunity to choose another path in advance. In Taldi, this path has already begun to be paved together - the villagers, the local authorities and the policeman who once grew up here and now tries to make the future of his native village better.

The new look of the village

The history of Talda shows that security in a small village does not consist only of police work, preventive raids and control over compliance with the law. Equally important is trust between residents, willingness to jointly solve problems and attention to what young people live. When people have a common goal, the very atmosphere in the village changes.

For Mukhamedkali Saduakasov, returning to his native village was an opportunity not only to continue the service, but also to make a personal contribution to the development of the village. Giving up alcohol, fighting crime and creating a sports space became part of one big task - to make Taldy a place where children and teenagers want to grow up, play sports and make plans for the future.

Today, the Taldas are gradually changing not only externally. The main change is in the attitude of the residents to their village and its future. Mukhamedkali Saduakasov firmly believes that it is necessary to educate a law-abiding and responsible generation from childhood. Once upon a time, a police captain took his first steps here, and now he is helping others. And his experience shows that sometimes the contribution of one person who not only sees the problem, but takes responsibility for solving it, is enough for important and big changes.
