Orthodox calendar
Day of Remembrance of Saints Peter and Paul, Bishops of Nicea. Saint Peter lived in the late VIII – first half of the IX century. In 813, the Byzantine throne was occupied by Emperor Leo V the Armenian, under which the struggle against the veneration of icons intensified again. In 814 he summoned bishops and abbots of monasteries to Constantinople in an attempt to obtain their support for iconoclastic politics. Peter of Nicaea was one of those priests who refused to do so. There is much less reliable biographical information about Pavel Nicea – for the first time his name is found in the so-called “Peter” Greek Prologue of the XI century. Both saints became famous for their struggle against heretical teachings and the affirmation of the Orthodox faith.
The Day of Remembrance of St. Paul of Pechersk, Obedient. He asceticized in the Kiev-Pechersk monastery, became famous for humility and strict obedience. His relics rest in the Theodosian caves.
Cathedral of Lipetsk Saints. The holiday was established in 2010 with the blessing of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and is timed to September 23 – the day of memory of Hieromartyr Uar, the first bishop of Lipetsk. The Council includes saints associated with the Lipetsk land: St. Basil, Bishop of Ryazan, St. Alexis, Metropolitan of Moscow, St. Metrophanes, Bishop of Voronezh, St. Tikhon, Zadon miracle worker, and others.
Day of Remembrance of the Martyrs Minodora, Metrodora and Nymphodora. 3 Sisters lived in the fourth century in Bithynia, during the reign of Emperor Maximian Galerius. To save their souls, they retired to a deserted place and spent their lives in fasting and prayer. When the authorities found out about this, the sisters were seized: they were first persuaded to abdicate by wealth and marriage, then threatened with torture. The sisters remained adamant. A particle of their relics is stored in the Russian Panteleimon Monastery on Athos.
On September 23, the birthday parties will celebrate: Andrei, Vasily, Gabriel, Gleb, Eugene, Ivan, Iraida, Ismail, Klim, Constantine, Luke, Nikolai, Pavel, Peter, Raisa, Semen, Tikhon, Jan.

Folk signs
In the national calendar, September 23 is called Peter and Paul Ryabinniki. The day falls on the autumn equinox, the ash after the first frosts becomes sweeter, and in the old days they began to collect it. The weather and the behavior of nature on this day predicted what the winter will be. The earth is densely covered with fallen foliage - winter will be cold; if the foliage is still kept on the branches - warm days will stand for a long time. A warm and clear day – winter will be late and mild, without protracted frosts. Birds fly high - autumn will be warm; low above the ground - to close frosts. Morning fog, dissipating by noon - October will be clear and dry.
Rain on the equinox - autumn will be drizzled and protracted, and winter - abundant snow. Thunder on this day - for a long and warm autumn. Ants clog the entrances to the anthills - to an early cold snap. A lot of ash in the forest - the winter will be frosty; few berries - the winter is mild. The south wind - to heavy snowfalls; the north - to severe frosts. Birch has shed foliage earlier than oak - winter will come early; on the contrary - winter will be mild.
