ZAGS called the rare names of newborns in October in the Rostov region

By the end of October, the most unusual names chosen by parents for their children became known in the Rostov region. The updated data was published in the registry office on October 27.

In October 2026, such rare female names as Lucretia, Asmo, Nastasya and Sofia-Lima appeared in the Rostov region. Particular attention was drawn to the name of John, which is of Hebrew origin and means “merciful to God.”.

Among the boys, such rare names as Avetik, Armais, Sandor and Yunus stood out. The leading position among rare male names was taken by Lazir, whose origin has several versions. It can be derived from the Arabic or Persian word laziz, meaning "dear" or "beautiful," or from a Greek word associated with light. In the Caucasian tradition, Lazir also occurs as a rare name.

It is worth noting that despite the popularity of unusual names, the most popular among newborn girls since the beginning of 2026 remain Sofia, Maria, Vasilisa, Varvara and Anna. The boys are led by Mikhail, Alexander, Artem, Ivan and Matvey.
