Tomorrow, October 28, the Orthodox will celebrate the memory of St. Euthymius of Thessaloniki, who lived in the IX century in Palestine.
Nikita (this name was given to the future saint at birth) was born in a Christian family, at the insistence of his parents he married early, but at the age of 18, leaving his wife and daughter, he took tonsure in a monastery on Mount Olympus.
After some time Euthymius became a schemist, went to Athos and settled there with the hermit Joseph. When word of his asceticism began to spread, and pilgrims reached for the saint, he took refuge from the people on the island.
After the death of his comrade Joseph, Euthymius founded a monastic community near Thessaloniki, restoring the ruins of the ancient monastery of St. Andrew.
