"Winnipeg Jets" suspended from the lineup of American goalkeeper Connor Hellibike due to a failure to appear in training camp. This was reported by the press service of the National Hockey League (NHL).
The goalkeeper had previously requested an exchange from the club. According to The Athletic, in the summer Hellibike was close to moving to the Buffalo Sabres, but the deal fell through. The player was also interested in the New Jersey Devils, Carolina Hurricanes and Utah Mammot. Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff will address the media on Thursday and comment in detail on the situation.
The current agreement of the 33-year-old goalkeeper is calculated until 2031. His average salary for the season is $8.5 million. If the suspension lasts before the start of the regular season (29 September), the player will not receive a salary until he returns to the squad and his contract for this period will no longer be counted under the club’s salary ceiling.
In the 2012 NHL draft, Hellibike was selected by Winnipeg under the overall 130th number. For the team, the goalkeeper debuted in 2015. He was recognized three times as the best goalkeeper of the season (2020, 2024, 2025), and also won the prize for the most valuable player of the regular season (2025). As part of the US team, the hockey player won gold at the Olympic Games in 2026.
