The Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation (FHB) has expressed disagreement with the decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), according to which the national teams of Belarus will not take part in the youth world championship and the world championship in 2027, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports with reference to the statement of the FHB.

The IIHF Council announced the non-admission of national teams on November 7. The FHB’s official comment noted that the decision came a few days after the IIHF Disciplinary Panel granted the FHB’s appeal and annulled the Council’s decisions of July 27, 2026. The IIHF acknowledged that the references to security concerns were not supported by sufficient evidence.
FGB does not agree with the new decision of the Board. Before the World Cup in Germany, which starts in May 2027, there is enough time to work out all the organizational issues. The Ice Hockey Federation of Belarus intends to protect the rights of domestic hockey and will soon determine legal steps, including the possibility of applying to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the decisions of IIHF bodies.
FHB Chairman Alexander Bogdanovich noted that the new decision, in fact, reproduces the result of the canceled: the national teams of Belarus again remain outside the tournaments, while changing only the rationale.
- Questions and inconsistency of approaches, added A. Bogdanovich. The IIHF explains the non-admission of Belarusian teams by the need to preserve the structure and planning of tournaments, but in relation to Russia, it states the need to implement the CAS decision, which will also require a change in the composition of participants. Why the same approach is not applied to Belarus remains unanswered.
In late October, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ordered IIHF to allow Russian teams to compete under the auspices of this international federation.
