Ovechkin responded to the American congressman who “caught” him
Russian striker of the club “Washington Capitals” Alexander Ovechkin commented on the actions of American Congressman Joe Wilson

Russian striker of the club “Washington Capitals” Alexander Ovechkin commented on the actions of American Congressman Joe Wilson. Earlier, the politician sent an official letter to the commissioner of the National Hockey League Gary Bettman, expressing dissatisfaction with the participation of the hockey player in the election video of the United Russia party.
Answering questions about the time of shooting, the athlete said that they took place about three weeks ago. Asked if his reaction to the publication was surprising, the hockey player admitted that he was surprised, but it is impossible to change the situation.
He stressed that he is a Russian man, plans to live in Russia, and his children will also live in their homeland, so he always supports his country.
Ovechkin added that he stands for peace and love, and he does not care about the nationality of the interlocutor, be it Ukrainian, American or Russian. He noted that he has many friends in Ukraine and expressed hope for an early end to the conflict, adding that he is not a politician and cannot judge who is right and who is guilty.
Regarding the criticism from the congressman, the athlete said that everyone can have their own opinion, but he has always been and remains a native of Russia, which supports his homeland. These statements are cited by the agency ESPN.
Earlier it became known that the American Congressman Joe Wilson, representing the Republican party from the state of South Carolina, sent an official appeal to the commissioner of the National Hockey League Gary Bettman. The reason was the participation of the captain of “Washington Capitals” Alexander Ovechkin in the pre-election video of “United Russia”. The politician described the situation as a cause for serious concern. In his opinion, “the leadership of the league and the club itself showed irresponsibility, allowing the open participation of their main star in the political campaign in support of Russian President Vladimir Putin.”.
The lawmaker considered unacceptable the fact that an athlete who receives millions of royalties in the United States and enjoys the benefits of Western society is also the face of a Russian political force. In his letter, Wilson pointed out that despite Ovechkin's right to personal political views, his active involvement in campaign materials as captain of the National Hockey League club in the US capital raises serious questions about the standards of conduct expected of players representing the league and their communities.
It is also worth noting that earlier the club “Washington Capitals” ignored in their social networks the congratulations of the athlete on his 41st birthday, which the Russian striker celebrated on the seventeenth of September.
