Triumph Moskvina on the “Nevsky ice”: Mishina and Galliamov won the stage of the Grand Prix of Russia.
October 25, 2026 in St. Petersburg completed the second stage of the Russian Grand Prix series in figure skating. In the competitions of sports couples, Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Galliamov won an unconditional victory, demonstrating a high level of skill and the will to win.
The students of honored coach Tamara Moskvina scored 212.78 points on the sum of two programs. After a short program, the duo took the second line, but in the free rolling skaters were able to correct the situation, bypassing competitors and rising to the top of the pedestal. This was their first victory in the stages of the Russian Grand Prix this season. The pair's result surpassed their personal achievements set earlier at the international challenger in Batumi, where they finished second.
The execution of an arbitrary program was mostly pure. The only serious drawback was the double second jump in the cascade of two triple Salkhovs, while all other elements were performed confidently and received positive assessments from the judging team.
Anastasia Mishina noted that moral fatigue after a tense performance the day before could affect the feelings during the free program, although the athlete did not feel physical weakness. Alexander Galliamov stressed the productivity of working with choreographer Igor Kachaev, whose recommendations helped to improve the emotional component of skating. The skater also noted that the early start of the competitive season made it possible to quickly adapt to public performances, making going on the ice a familiar routine. The pair sees the victory as an important dress rehearsal before the upcoming stages of the ISU Grand Prix.
The coaching staff led by Tamara Moskvina highly appreciated the readiness of the wards. The specialist pointed to the need for rapid adaptation to the new schedule, which requires reaching the peak of the form by September, and not by November, as it was in previous years. The summer training period was less intense in sports terms due to the personal circumstances of the athletes: Alexander Gallyamov completed his studies at the institute and passed practice, and Anastasia Mishina was preparing for the wedding and honeymoon.
In the conditions of uncertainty with the status of Russian skaters in the international arena, the coaching staff decided to restore the old, well-established programs, updating them under the new rules. This step made up for the lack of time to produce completely new numbers. Moskvina expressed confidence that the pair is fully ready to participate in both Russian and international competitions.
Silver medalists of the tournament were Ekaterina Chikmareva and Matvey Yanchenkov, who scored 211.53 points. For the students of Pavel Slyusarenko, this medal was the third of the season after the second place in Japan and the third on the challenger in Georgia. In the short program, the St. Petersburg couple showed the best result, but in an arbitrary one they allowed a number of blots, including the performance of a double salkhov instead of the planned element in combination and the inaccurate release of a triple flip. However, the overall impression of skating remained positive.
The athletes admitted that the flight delay during the flight from Perm to St. Petersburg had a different effect on their condition. If on Saturday the adrenaline helped roll back the program on the machine, then on Sunday the excitement increased. Matvey Yanchenkov noted the pleasure of the skating process and the support of the audience, despite technical flaws. Ekaterina Chikmareva expressed gratitude to the coaches for their constant support and jokingly mentioned the curious situation with the disappearance of toys intended for video content on social networks.
Bronze medals were won by Ekaterina Heinish and Andrei Rud, who received 189.39 points from the judges. For this pair, formed in the off-season under the leadership of Arina Ushakova, this result was the first prize in the Russian series. Rapid mutual understanding and high motivation allowed the athletes to successfully roll in a short time.
Andrey Rud thanked the Russian Figure Skating Federation for the excellent conditions of the tournament and noted the importance of open communication within the pair to overcome personal difficulties. The athletes stressed that their main task was the quality of the elements, the rest they left to the discretion of the judges and the public.
The following duets closed the top six:
4. Sofia Diana Casins – Alexander Breguey (174.68 points);
5. Eva Khmelkova – Vladislav Antonyshev (167.17 points);
6. Anna Lyashenko – Peter Alekseenko (155.01 points).
The tournament in St. Petersburg confirmed the high competition in Russian pairs skating and demonstrated the readiness of leading athletes for serious international trials.
