The development of Russian models of artificial intelligence (AI) lags behind the Chinese about six months, said the Chairman of the Board of “Sberbank” German Gref. According to him, companies from China are not limited in capacity.

We are on an unequal footing with Chinese companies, which have virtually no capacity constraints today. By all other parameters, I believe we are not inferior, Gref said at the GigaConf 2026 conference. He believes that the backlog will continue in the future. The head of Sberbank stressed that Chinese companies, in turn, lag behind the American “by the same six months.”.

In 2026, customers of the main Russian cloud platforms increased the use of foreign large language models several times. At the same time, the main demand, according to the surveyed companies, shifted towards Chinese ones, for example, Qwen and DeepSeek.
