New rules of the American company Google may prevent the free installation of Russian mobile applications on devices with the Android operating system. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of digital resources Maksut Shadayev. According to him, under attack first of all can get developers whose applications have already been removed from stores.
“The ministers assess these risks and form proposals together with the industry to minimize them,” Shadayev said. The introduction of Google developer verification mechanism (Android Developer Verification) became known in August. The system checks the origin of the application and is implemented in stages.
Installing applications from developers who have not undergone verification will be complicated: users will have to change the device settings, undergo biometric authentication or enter a lock password, confirm the voluntariness of actions, restart the smartphone and wait 24 hours.
After that, you need to go back to the settings and choose whether to allow the use of applications from unverified developers for a week or indefinitely. Google explained this measure to the fight against malware. From September 30, the rules will apply in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, to other countries they will be extended in 2027.
