Not every diet is equally beneficial for the thyroid gland: some foods and eating habits can disrupt its work. Russian endocrinologist, nutritionist Olga Pavlova told what diet harms the thyroid gland, writes sb.by.

White sugar
According to Olga Pavlova, a sharp jump in glucose gives a release of insulin, which leads to a sharp drop in sugar:
- This harms both the thyroid gland and the adrenal glands, disrupts metabolism, deprives energy. Therefore, instead of fast carbohydrates in the diet should include slow - fruits, berries.
Cabbage every day
- Cruciferous (cabbage of all kinds) contain goitrogens - substances that, with daily use, especially against the background of thyroid pathology and iodine deficiency, worsen the production of hormones, explained Olga Pavlova. If you have a decrease in thyroid function, deterioration of the thyroid gland relative to ideal age indicators, then cabbage should not be eaten daily. You can include in the diet 1-3 times a week and in a heat-treated form.
Poor quality protein
As the doctor noted, in sausages, purchased cutlets, minced meat, dumplings, there is little real protein, but many substitutes:
The thyroid needs high-quality protein for the synthesis of hormones. It is contained in whole foods - fish, chicken, meat.
Iodine deficiency in the diet
According to Olga Pavlova, this is a condition in which the body receives less than 150 mcg of iodine per day for adults, which disrupts the normal functioning of the thyroid gland:
Thyroid hormones T3 (3 iodine residues) and T4 (4 iodine residues) are not synthesized without iodine. Therefore, it is worth using iodine-containing products: seaweed (laminaria), algae, fish, seafood, iodized salt.
At the same time, the specialist warned that iodine is volatile when heated. Add iodized salt to the finished dish in a plate, not when cooking or frying.
