Autumn is a great time to make the diet a little more useful for blood vessels. It should be understood that no product will cure varicose veins and will not protect against thrombosis by itself. But a regular balanced diet with seasonal products helps maintain the cardiovascular system due to the necessary nutrients - fiber, potassium, magnesium, polyphenols and other plant compounds. Russian phlebologist Maxim Abasov told what products should be included in the menu in the fall, writes sb.by.

Pumpkin
According to Maxim Abasov, it is rich in potassium, magnesium and fiber:
- These components help maintain a normal water-salt balance and the work of the heart muscle, and fiber helps to reduce the level of “bad” cholesterol by improving digestion. Pumpkin is convenient to bake slices with spices, add to mashed soups or put in porridge.
Beets
As noted by the phlebologist, beets contain natural nitrates, which in the body are converted into nitric oxide - a substance involved in regulating vascular tone and maintaining normal pressure. Beets can be baked whole, cooked for borscht or make salads from it, for example, with walnuts and a small amount of vegetable oil, Maxim Abasov advised.
Fungi
- A good source of potassium, B vitamins (they are involved in energy metabolism and the nervous system), fiber and trace elements. In the autumn season, you can use forest mushrooms, and the rest of the time - mushrooms, oysters and other available options. Mushrooms are good in stewed form, in soups, casseroles or as part of a vegetable stew, the doctor explained.
Apples
Maxim Abasov said that they contain soluble fiber (including pectin) and polyphenols - plant antioxidants that support vascular health and help reduce oxidative stress. Apples are conveniently eaten fresh, baked with cinnamon or added to oatmeal and salads.
Lentils
- It is an excellent source of plant protein, fiber and iron. Vegetable (non-heme) iron is absorbed worse than an animal, so it should be combined with foods rich in vitamin C: for example, add Bulgarian pepper, tomatoes or a little lemon juice to a plate with lentils. So the assimilation of iron will significantly improve, Maxim Abasov added.
