Bloomberg explained the role of Boeing design in the rescue of flydubai flight
Boeing 737 Max airline flydubai, where one of the pilots attacked the second and tried to crash the plane, landed after a sharp dive. According to Bloomberg, this could help the safety margin and features of the ship’s management
The incident on board flydubai drew attention to the design features of the Boeing 737 Max, which could help the aircraft avoid disaster after a sharp dive, reports Bloomberg, citing the former pilot.
According to the Agency, a successful outcome could contribute to the aviation reserve measures and coincidence of circumstances. The plane was able to land in Saudi Arabia after several sharp maneuvers, although at one point, according to the agency, it fell almost vertically. According to Flightradar24, the rate of decline exceeded 32,000 feet, or about 9,800 meters, per minute.
This outcome may be explained by the fact that the aircraft are tested in advance in conditions beyond the normal flight. As explained by former test pilot of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Bob Stoney, it helps to test their behavior inadvertently exceeding the permissible parameters.
Bloomberg also drew attention to photos where part of the steering wheel in the tail of the plane looked torn off. The authenticity of the images was not confirmed by the agency. According to Stoney, the test involves flying with a jammed steering wheel, but not with a missing one. In both cases, pilots have to do without it. This makes it difficult to land in strong or side winds.
Another feature of Boeing that could have played a role, Bloomberg calls the steering wheels in front of the pilot seats. Passenger Yaniv Hayun said in a video released by the Israeli prime minister's office that he pulled the attacker away from the commander, grabbed control levers and pulled them on himself to stop the dive. According to him, he knew about this action through the program "Aircraft Crash Investigations".
Unlike the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 is controlled by side handles next to the pilot seats. They could be less understandable to a person without flight training, the agency writes.
The incident occurred on the morning of September 30 on flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The plane signaled an emergency and possible seizure, changed its route and landed in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. According to Ynet, there were 174 passengers on board, including 27 children. Flydubai said all passengers were safe.
On October 3, UAE Attorney General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi said the investigation revealed an attempt by the co-pilot to carry out a terrorist operation. According to him, the attacker pilot wielded an emergency axe.
ABC News, citing sources on October 3, named the alleged attacker - 29-year-old Omani citizen Hamam Al-Hammami. According to the interlocutors of the channel, in 2024, he was found extremist materials while working for Oman Air, after which he was allowed to continue working in an administrative position. According to ABC, on October 1, Al Hammami was transported from Saudi Arabia to the UAE.
