On October 22, 1901, a library-reading room was opened in the village of Chekuevo, Onega district. It appeared in a hired room and at the expense of the peasants of the Ikonnikov brothers.
Anyone could sign up - no tickets or deposits were required. The main goal was to spread literacy among the people. By 1908, the fund had 1908 volumes and periodicals.
It's been a long time since then. The library changed its address more than once, moved from building to building, and then completely moved from the village of Chekuevo to the village of Antsiferovsky Bor.
Today, the Chekuyev Library is not just a place where books are issued. It is a space for communication, meetings and good deeds. Here they help to find the right book, maintain interest in reading and preserve the history of their native land.
