Basangov National Drama Theatre has opened its 90th season. The central event of the evening was the premiere of the play “My Arslan”, created based on the play of the outstanding orientalist, philosopher and writer Lev Gumilev “The Death of Prince Jamukha”. The premiere show gathered in the auditorium fans of the theater, cultural figures and connoisseurs of art.
The performance offers the viewer to look at the story through the prism of the author himself. The name of the main character was chosen not by chance: Arslan is a Kalmyk translation of the name Lev, as Gumilev called himself. The plot of the play is based on the events of the era of the unification of Mongolian tribes. The production reveals not only the historical plot, but also addresses the fate of the scientist himself, as well as the story of the tragic love he carried through his life.
The main celebrations on the occasion of the opening of the 90th season are scheduled for November 8. The program of the holiday includes the mini-festival “Prime Minister’s Parade”, during which the audience will be presented with four new productions of the theater. In addition to “My Arslan”, these are performances of “Retro” based on the play by Alexander Galin, “Mother’s Hymn” by Baatra Basangov and “Princess Turandot” by Carlo Gozzi.
