China increased purchases of Russian coal by more than a third in September
Exports of coal (energy and coking) from Russia to China in September 2026 increased by 39% compared to last September and reached 9.4 million tons. This is evidenced by the data of the Main Customs Agency (GTU) of the PRC. The volume of deliveries in September was the maximum monthly figure for more than two years - since June 2024. In monetary terms, coal exports doubled to $1.2 billion in September. The volume of Russian coal exports to China in January-September amounted to 62.6 million tons, which is 6% less than in the same period of 2025. Such dynamics is caused by a drop in supplies in the first half of the year, follows from the data of the GTU of China. In monetary terms, exports for the nine months increased by 20% to $7.2 billion.
