EU countries have updated the record for the selection of gas from underground storage
The occupancy rate of Germany’s largest gas storage facilities fell below 60 percent for the first week of November. At the same time, the daily gas withdrawal in the country exceeded the previous record for November 6 by 58.7%
Europe has updated the record for the selection of gas from underground storage facilities (UGS), follows from the data of Gas Infrastructure Europe, which leads the press service of Gazprom.
As the holding notes, on November 6, the extraction of gas from UGS facilities became historically the maximum for this date. Thus, from storage facilities raised by 23.9% or 83 million cubic meters more than the previous daily maximum.
The occupancy rate of Germany, which has the largest storage capacity in the EU, fell below 60%. "This is an exceptional situation for the first week of November in the entire history of observations," Gazprom said.
Daily selection from storage facilities in Germany on November 6 exceeded by 58.7% or 37 million cubic meters the previous highest figure for this date.
Earlier, Gazprom Chairman Alexey Miller warned that Europe will face a difficult autumn-winter season. As of October 1, European storage facilities were filled by 72%, and the volume of active gas in them occupied 11.3 billion cubic meters less than a year ago.
The EU will reduce imports of Russian gas “to zero” by the end of 2027, said in October the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen. At the same time, she stressed that the European Union had previously faced an energy crisis and was able to overcome it.
Von der Leyen recalled that in 2022, Russian gas supplies were stopped, the share of which in European imports at that time was 45%. “Thanks to the decisions we made during the crisis of 2022, today we are less vulnerable and in a better position,” she said.
She added that 70% of European electricity is now generated from renewable energy and nuclear energy.
The EU continues to consistently refuse Russian gas - imports of Russian LNG are planned to stop from January 1, 2027, pipeline gas - from September 30 of the same year. Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov said that the refusal of Europe from gas supplies from Russia will put the countries of the continent in dependence on the United States — according to him, Washington sells gas “very expensive”.
Russia is ready to work with Europe to supply fuel, but they need a signal, said President Vladimir Putin. The head of state noted that Moscow needs to assess the possibility and feasibility of supplying Russian fuel to the Western market and not wait until Europe “demonstrably slams the door” with regard to energy supplies.
