Banks returned to the Russians 650 million rubles stolen by fraudsters This was stated by the head of the Department of information security of the Central Bank (CB) Vadim Uvarov. According to him, 15.5 thousand Russians used the procedure.
The total amount of money returned is almost 650 million rubles. We and banks conduct point stories related to the return of money, when the money, for example, fell on the account of the victim’s bank, but in fact they did not reach the victim, said Mr. Uvarov at the banking forum.
According to the Central Bank, in the second quarter of 2026, the number of attacks using social engineering reached 28.7 thousand – the maximum value for two years. The number of embezzlements of bank customers through the system of quick payments (SBP) was a record and exceeded last year’s figure by almost three times. Since transfers through the SBP are initiated by the client himself, the bank conducts an operation without the ability to quickly deploy the payment, and the share of funds returned to defrauded customers barely exceeds 2%.
