The first payments in digital rubles in the form of taxes and fines have already been credited to the Russian budget. This was announced by the Minister of Finance of Russia Anton Siluanov at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Mr. Siluanov added that the Ministry of Finance created a legislative framework for the use of the ruble in the budget process. “Already a year ago, the first postings were carried out, scholarships were paid to students, salaries, separate operations on investment expenses were carried out,” the minister said.
Settlements in digital rubles will expand as infrastructure develops, Anton Siluanov said. He noted that now it is important to expand such opportunities for payment with the digital ruble, so that the currency is accepted in all institutions and outlets. The head of the Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina noted that the regulator is preparing a solution that will allow you to pay in digital rubles without the Internet.
In Russia, the digital ruble was launched from September 1, 2026. All systemically important banks and banks that are significant in the payment services market should provide their customers with the opportunity to operate with digital rubles. Major retailers should accept them for payment. According to the law, by the end of the year, preferential conditions will apply for business, under which no commission is charged for payments and transfers.
