Russian President Vladimir Putin asked people to explain in more detail what the digital ruble is and what its advantages are. With such a request, he appealed to the Chairman of the Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina and Finance Minister Anton Siluanov.

What is the difference between simple cashless payments and the use of the digital ruble? What are the advantages, what is the difference? Because for an ordinary citizen, this is not very clear, the president said at a meeting with the government.

Since September 1, customers of the largest Russian banks have the opportunity to pay for purchases with digital currency. According to the Bank of Russia, the virtual ruble should become the usual method of payment within 5-7 years. As its advantages, the regulator calls a high degree of transparency of transfers, which reduce the opportunities for fraud.
