Alexey Popov: Samara breeding varieties occupied 70% of the area of hard wheat in Russia

Samara breeders confidently dominate the federal agricultural market. Grain varieties bred in the region occupy 70 percent of all sown areas of hard wheat in Russia.

Fundamental research in the region is conducted by specialized institutes named after Tulaikov and Konstantinov together with the State Agrarian University.

Minister of Agriculture Alexei Popov reported on significant selection achievements. The State Register for 2025 included winter wheat "Vertical", barley "Streletsky", soybean "Samer 6" and peas "Egorych". A separate success was the official registration of three new promising potato varieties.

Regional authorities actively implement operational solutions without lengthy bureaucratic procedures. For example, scientific adjustment of diets of dairy herds significantly increases the productivity of animals.

The state supports such initiatives through the national project “Technological provision of food security”, said in an interview with “MK in Samara” Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Samara region – Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Samara region Alexei Popov.
