Belarus is interested in scientific cooperation with the countries of the Global South, exchange of experience and mutually beneficial cooperation. This was stated by the Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology (SCST) of Belarus Denis Korzhitsky during the conference of outstanding scientists of the Global South, which was held in the Chinese city of Xi'an, BelTA reports.

“In today’s world, high-tech development is not just a factor of growth, but a fundamental strategic imperative, the main and only way to maintain global competitiveness in the face of the exhaustion of traditional models. In the twenty-first century, economic leadership is directly correlated with technological sovereignty and the ability to shape the future. The experience of the Belarusian-Chinese scientific and technical partnership allows us to follow these trends. SCST consistently implements the agreements of the heads of state in the field of science and innovation, said Denis Korzhitsky.
In 2026, three flagship projects are being implemented, a competition of Belarusian-Chinese flagship projects for 2027-2030 is announced in the areas of mechanical engineering intellectualization, new materials, laser and plasma technologies, biomedicine and the space industry, and it is planned to support up to 30 joint scientific and technical projects for 2027-2029.
Belarus conducts systematic work on the development of international scientific, technical and innovative cooperation with more than 50 countries. New opportunities for the country opens accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Cooperation has begun under an agreement between the governments of the SCO member states on scientific and technical cooperation. Projects are selected for joint implementation. The project office of the China Center for Technology Transfer of the SCO member states was opened in Minsk.
I particularly want to emphasize that systematic work has been established between the SCST and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the PRC to develop Belarusian-Chinese cooperation. The experience of our two countries shows that when the political will of leaders is backed by concrete programs, sustainable funding and mutual trust of scientists, science becomes a true force for creation. Belarus is open to sharing this experience with all partners from the Global South, the chairman of the SCST noted.
On January 20, 2027, Belarus and China will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. “Over the years, our countries have gone from first contacts to an exemplary all-weather partnership in which science and technology occupy a central place. We are grateful for this experience and see it as an example of what the Global South can achieve by joining forces. Based on the rich scientific heritage of our peoples, we can together create the knowledge and technologies of the future. Belarus is open to dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation with all those who share the values of peace, equality and joint development. I am confident that our conference will be a significant step towards strengthening the scientific community of the Global South, said Denis Korzhitsky.
