Belarus delivers first batch of previously sanctioned goods to US

In the American New Orleans, located in Louisiana, for the first time since 2021 delivered a batch of Belarusian potassium. This became possible after Washington lifted restrictions on the potash industry in Belarus. The delivery was told by the permanent representative of Belarus to the UN Valentin Rybakov in an interview with the publication “SB Belarus today”.

According to the diplomat, the cargo was fully registered at customs, and it is listed as a Belarusian product. In the near future, the next batch of raw materials will be sent to the United States. Minsk, meanwhile, is trying to unfreeze and transfer money for previous deliveries. These funds are stuck in Citibank. Another debt to Belarus has already been repaid. It will be completely closed by the end of this year.

Washington imposed sanctions against the Belarusian potash industry in 2021. In December 2025, the US administration began gradually relaxing the restrictions. And in March 2026, sanctions against Belarusian potash fertilizer producers were completely lifted. These products are used in agriculture to increase yields.

In September, US President Donald Trump spoke about the preparation of a major deal. It involves the purchase of fertilizers from Minsk at prices that are significantly lower than Canadian. Trump saw this as good news for American farmers and livestock farmers. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said earlier that large volumes of potassium for Western markets can not yet be allocated. All production for this year has already been distributed under existing contracts.
