The National Bank noted the tendency to increase savings of Belarusians in national currency. The share of term ruble deposits in all term deposits of individuals as of September 1, 2026 reached 72.9% against 64% in 2025, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports with reference to the press service of the financial institution.
Savings activity of the population in August remained at a high level. Term ruble deposits of citizens as of September 1, reached 18.9 billion BYN, an increase in August by 564.1 million BYN, or 3.1%. In the eight months of 2026, these deposits grew by BYN 3.8 billion, or 25%, against an increase of BYN 2.5 billion, or 23.5%, over the same period last year.
In August of this year, the share of the ruble component in the average broad money supply increased to 68.4% from 63% a year earlier.
The National Bank noted that the increased propensity to save in the national currency contributes to the continuation of the processes of reducing the currencyization of the economy. Also, against the background of faster growth rates of the average ruble money supply compared to the average broad money supply, the structure of the money supply is improving. The annual growth of these indicators was 31% and 20.6%, respectively.
The average value of term ruble deposits for 12 months increased by 31.1% (by 30.6% a year earlier), while deposits of individuals increased by 40.9% (by 38.3% last year).
