In the Grodno region is gaining momentum harvesting corn for grain – threshed a fifth of the area

The attention of Belarusian farmers is now focused on harvesting corn, which is a valuable fodder in the livestock industry. With a large margin, the Grodno region leads in terms of yield of this crop among the regions of the country. Our correspondents visited one of the largest farms - the Vasilishka open joint-stock company of the Shchuchinsky district, where, as a result of the use of modern technologies, the average yield exceeded 120 centners per hectare.

- We use domestic and foreign varieties for sowing, select the best experimentally, cooperate with scientists on improving soil fertility. This year, the corn is good! In the farm, more than 3.7 thousand hectares were allocated for it, of which 2.2 thousand were supposed to be used for silo, 1.5 thousand hectares for grain. But due to the very high yield of corn per silage – 450 centners of green mass per hectare – we plan to transfer 400 hectares to grain. Here, the yield also reached a maximum of 120 centners per hectare. Record for many years of cultivation!

So far, three harvesting units are involved in the fields, but in a couple of weeks they will be joined by the same number. It is difficult to single out leaders among mechanizers - all are time-tested.

One of these reliable workers is Valery Kepel, who took a job in the farm 30 years ago. They caught the front man in the field picking corn for grain. This year, the harvest for all crops is simply colossal, this was not in my memory! I look at the corn and my heart is happy. In our economy, such conditions have been created when everyone understands that with diligence and a high-quality approach to the assigned duties, you can earn good money. For mechanizer Anatoly Vilkevich, this is the first season of independent work behind the wheel of a combine harvester. For many years he worked in security in the same farm, although from childhood he helped his father-combainer, and later took leave for the time of harvesting.

- Working on modern machines is a pleasure! says Anatoly. Techniques are comfortable, fields are productive, people are hardworking. There is no need to force anyone here, rather, on the contrary, everyone strives to do more and better.

- In the Grodno region, almost 112 thousand hectares of arable land were allocated for corn on a silo, 81 percent of areas with an average yield of 331 centners per hectare were removed on Tuesday morning. Gross harvest was more than 2.67 million tons. Corn for grain this year occupies 53.6 thousand hectares, of which 33 percent have already been removed. Welded 186 thousand tons with a yield of 108 centners per circle. The leaders in yield are Grodno district, where there are 161 centners per hectare, the second and third places are in Berestovitsky (122 centners per hectare) and Svisloch (117) districts.
