BMW is looking for a way to persuade employees to resign voluntarily
German car concern BMW is ready to pay its employees severance benefits of up to 600 thousand euros, in case of their dismissal at their own request

The German car concern BMW is ready to pay its employees severance benefits of up to 600 thousand euros, in case of their dismissal at their own request. This measure is being implemented against the background of the company's plans to eliminate eight thousand jobs, Bild reports citing informed sources.
Back in July, Bloomberg reported that BMW intends to reduce the number of employees in Germany by several thousand people by the end of 2027. This is part of the automaker’s global strategy to cut eight thousand jobs worldwide.
The company aims to eliminate up to eight thousand positions internationally, with the bulk of the cuts coming from German companies. Older employees with long working experience are offered compensation in the amount of approximately 50 thousand euros for each year worked in the corporation. As a result, an employee with 12 years of experience in the concern can count on a final payment of 600 thousand euros.
In preparation for large-scale personnel changes, the automaker initiated a program of voluntary retirement from work. Bild journalists stressed that the response to this proposal was so massive that BMW had to temporarily freeze this action. About 50,000 of the group’s 84,000 employees have access to the tool to pre-calculate compensation. At the same time, the company does not disclose the exact formula for calculating payments, specifying only that the age of the specialist, his salary level and the duration of work in the organization play a decisive role.
However, BMW expects that the one-time cost of optimizing the number of employees will pay off and, starting in 2028, will allow the company to save about one billion euros annually. According to the newspaper, the entire department of Autonomous Driving, engaged in the production of sensors, collectively expressed a desire to leave the company for the sake of financial compensation. However, it is still unclear whether the company's management approved the dismissals.
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW) produces passenger cars under the BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands, as well as motorcycles and powertrains. The main office of the organization is located in Munich. Last year, the total number of employees of the company reached 154,540 employees.
