Become a locomotive of the industry: experience in the development of breeding beef cattle is studied in the Shklov district

The farm for breeding beef breeds of ASB-Agro Gorodets CJSC near the village of Krivel became one of the demonstration platforms of the republican training seminar dedicated to the introduction of modern approaches to regional development on the example of Shklovsky district. Today, on November 8, the current situation and prospects for the development of domestic breeding beef cattle are discussed here.

On the eve of the seminar, the President visited the facility. A year ago, he set the Shklov agricultural enterprise a clear vector of development. As a result, the farm was transferred to the department of RUE "Mogilevoblgaz" and launched a comprehensive modernization program, part of which was the construction of a farm for 800 heads of breeding cattle of beef breeds. The project is also included in the State Program of the AIC of the Future for 2026-2030.

The development of beef cattle breeding is one of the key tasks set by the Head of State. Today, beef is in great demand both in the domestic market of Belarus and abroad. Of particular interest is the sale of young animals for breeding purposes - this direction demonstrates high profitability and excellent prices.

The farm is a real example of the “take and do” format. Its main advantage is the high speed and relative cheapness of construction, said Sergey Andrush, General Director of RUSPP Mogilev State Plem Enterprise, which is responsible for filling livestock areas with livestock:

- The construction of the farm in Krivel started on June 9, 2026, and was commissioned on a turnkey basis on November 1. The total volume of capital investments amounted to 17.9 million rubles. At the same time, the cost of one cattle place was about 22.5 thousand rubles. By October 30, 235 heads of haters and heifers have already been placed in the new squares. Full configuration of the breeding stock and the formation of the herd is planned to be completed by the end of 2027.

The facility includes all the necessary infrastructure: four rooms for keeping animals, silage trenches, a separate hay storage, a canopy for equipment, as well as concrete walking areas and areas for removing manure. The farm specializes in breeding breeding cattle of the “Geriford” breed, which forms the basis of Belarusian beef cattle breeding, Sergey Andrush continued:

Only in the Mogilev region "gerifords" occupy 61 percent of the structure of the entire meat stock. The breed is valued for its unpretentiousness, light hotels that pass almost without human intervention, and, of course, the high quality of the famous marble meat. Plus, the Herefords quickly gain weight: the weight of the one and a half-year-old bull easily exceeds the mark of 550 kilograms.

The products of the farm are focused on the supply of breeding material to domestic and foreign markets. There will not be much time for swinging to reach operational payback: by December next year, the first sale of bulls weighing 300 or more kilograms will begin. Belarusian cattle are in high demand on the market today – demand exceeds supply, Sergey Andrush emphasized:

- The main export directions are the countries of the post-Soviet space: Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Kazakhstan is actively interested in procurement. Starting in 2028, we plan to annually sell 300 breeding heads from the farm: 150 calves and 150 gobies. The proceeds will be used to earn net profit and return on investment invested in construction.

In the Mogilev region, this experience in animal husbandry will be scaled – next year, a similar facility to Shklov will appear in the Dribinsky district. The region faces serious strategic goals: by the end of 2030, significantly increase production volumes - the meat herd will increase from today's 3.9 thousand heads to 5.6 thousand. Hence the main message and strategic task of the new complex in Krivel, continued Sergey Andrush:

- The facility goes beyond just one district and is conceived as a locomotive for the modernization of the industry: its work is aimed at a systematic increase in the number of Hereford cows in the Mogilev region as a whole. In turn, the farm of ASB-Agro Gorodets CJSC will become a kind of scientific and practical center for the cultivation and sale of breeding repair young meat breeds, in practice implementing the Belarusian model of the AIC of the future.

The first delegation of the Gomel region visited the new farm at the republican seminar. It is always useful to exchange experiences and opinions, Yuri Valevaty, Assistant to the President - Inspector for the Gomel Region, emphasized:

- We had the opportunity to look at a magnificent, technologically correctly erected object using the example of Mogilev colleagues. As the Head of State rightly noted, we are obliged to engage in beef cattle breeding – this is a popular premium product both for the domestic market and for export. But the main thing here is the approaches to construction and technology. The conditions created on this farm allow not only to raise livestock, but also to make a good economy.

Chairman of the Gomel City Executive Committee Ruslan Parkhamovich noted that the republican seminars are a search for hidden reserves and new opportunities to improve the efficiency of both the agro-industrial complex and related industries:

- It is interesting to see how the Mogilev builders managed to erect this complex as efficiently as possible. In this matter, we are always talking about reducing the cost of a square meter or cattle place, optimizing costs and getting the maximum result in the shortest possible time. Urban builders are also actively involved in such sites, so we will definitely analyze and implement this experience.

The first impression of the farm is that everything is modern, clean and technological. But the main thing that the Head of State always talks about is production discipline, Ruslan Parkhamovich continued:

- No matter how new the object is, it must initially be kept in perfect order. Here, all regulations on animal care, equipment operation and sanitation are strictly observed. That's how it should be everywhere. Modern technologies are moving forward, and the creation of such conditions practically eliminates shortcomings or incidents in the process of operation.
