Trump was speaking in Georgia to GOP supporters ahead of the midterm congressional elections scheduled for November 3. He called it the largest investment in the U.S. automotive industry in recent history. Head of Audi Gernot Dellner at the rally briefly confirmed that production is planned to start in Macon.
According to Trump, the decision is related to the duties imposed by the Washington administration. He said that without tariffs, the company would not have come. Earlier, he said that automakers are moving capacity to the United States because of the duties, including from Germany and Japan.
This scheme makes it possible to partially withdraw products from the action of American tariffs. Audi intends to build a large facility in Georgia and start operations next month.
