In the Brest region will receive a harvest of apples more than last year. This was reported to journalists by the Chairman of the Brest Regional Executive Committee Peter Parkhomchik, BelTA reports.

Pyotr Parkhomchik drew attention to the fact that a significant part of the republican volume of apples is grown in the Brest region. “Last year we experienced very serious production costs because a cascade of frosts ruined our crops. They received 3-3.5 times less apples than planned. This year, the reverse picture. The gardens are full of apples. Probably, there will be a record level in the Brest region. We expect that we will receive within 130 thousand tons, said the Chairman of the Brest Regional Executive Committee.

He added that this year was not without the negative impact of weather on the formation of the harvest. “There are commodity apples that can lie down and be served until April. And there are those that need to be implemented in a short time. It is very important to quickly distribute apples, – said the head of the Brest region.

Pyotr Parkhomchik today appreciated the harvest in the garden of OJSC "Ostromechevo" Brest district. In addition to apples, cherries, plums, grapes, apricots, blueberries are grown there. The farm has its own fertiliser. “We now have 111 hectares of fruiting apple orchard and 37 hectares of young. We expect to harvest about 2,000 tons of apples. The year is not the best for us, because there was strong hail, very high daytime temperatures. There were injuries, burns on apples. All of this affects the marketability. That is, such apples will already go as a second grade or for processing, said the garden manager Sergey Yarovoy. To protect the garden from return frosts, from heat, specialists introduce anti-stress fertilizers, competently approach watering for cooling.

In the farm, old gardens are systematically uprooted and new ones are laid. “We are trying to pick up a variety-sized combination. First of all, so that they are resistant to return frost. The second criterion is market requirements. Networks also have their own queries, certain parameters that apples must pass through. Also, from the point of view of planting the garden, we look at which variety is more suitable for pollination, so that the apple is tied more, the expert explained.

In the Brest region on January 1, 2026 under fruit and berry crops in agricultural organizations and farms occupied 8.2 thousand hectares. Over the past five years, 1.4 thousand hectares of apple orchards have been laid in the region. They grow summer, summer-autumn, autumn, autumn-winter, winter (44%) and late winter varieties (50%). New gardens are laid in Brest region every year.
