Geologists have discovered gold deposits near the Czech city of Zlate Gora. According to preliminary data, the state-owned enterprise DIAMO estimates reserves of about 11 tons of precious metal. From this volume in 10 years, it is possible to extract about 6.2 tons, indicated in the information brochure.
Ore in this place contains not only gold. Experts found copper and zinc there. With the annual processing of 200,000 tons of rock, 265 tons of copper and 1,556 tons of zinc can be obtained. In addition, experts check whether there is gallium in the field.
The projected life of the mine is 10 years, but this figure may change. The entire project model is designed for 15 years - 3 years for preparation, 10 years for extraction and another 2 years for the closure of the facility and restoration of the land. Additional exploration is able to identify new reserves and extend the life of the enterprise.
The launch of the project would give the region about 120 jobs. DIAMO tentatively estimates annual contributions to the budget of Zlate Gore at 8.37 million kroner and the neighboring community of Hermanovice at 2.88 million kroner. In addition to mandatory payments, the economic model includes the possibility of additional investments in the development of the territory. Their scope and specific goals have not yet been determined.
The launch of production should not be considered close. The company will conduct more detailed research, continue geological exploration and assess the impact of future production on nature. Experts should examine the risks to water sources, noise and dust levels, road loads and blast safety. Special attention should be paid to the EDEL sanatorium, which is located about 2.5 kilometers from the suspected explosion zone and specializes in speleotherapy.
The current study confirmed that the field is worth exploring further. This does not mean that construction or mining has already been approved. Ahead are environmental expertise, issues of territorial planning and obtaining permits. There is no final decision on the fate of the project yet.
