In the US, steel prices reached a maximum in four years

According to the British analytical company Fastmarkets, which refers to Bloomberg, steel prices in the United States reached the highest level since May 2022. A key indicator of the market — the cost of hot-rolled roll — was $1,255 per short ton (about 907 kg). Over the year, the figure increased by 52%.

The increase is due to a reduction in steel imports due to high duties (up to 50% of the value of the product) imposed by President Donald Trump. As a result, the gap between domestic and global prices is widening: U.S. steel costs two-thirds more than Europe and three times more than China.

The positive effect of rising prices is recorded in the incomes of the largest American steel enterprises. At the same time, the burden falls on consumers, manufacturing companies and the construction sector. According to analyst Richard Burke, the current supply negotiations for 2027 are in favor of metallurgists, and buyers should consider the likelihood of further price increases.
