Tool USDRUB TOM at 17:28 GMT fell by 0.9%, reaching 82.71.

Deals on the USDRUB TOM instrument resumed in mid-February 2026.
What now affects the ruble exchange rate
The ruble continues to strengthen. General Director of Alfa-Forex Guzel Protsenko attributed to the factors of its support:
increased activity of exporters before the quarterly tax payments, the peak of which falls on october 28, “supercomfortable” oil prices and a wide range of export goods.
According to Mikhail Zeltzer, an expert at BCS World Investments, the ruble is also strengthening due to the softened geopolitical background and the high probability of the Bank of Russia extending the pause at the key rate.
The rate meeting is scheduled for October 23. The participants of the consensus forecast of RBC - analysts of banks and investment companies - believe that on this day the Bank of Russia will again decide to keep the key rate at 14% per annum. The option of a pause at the next meeting was supported by 27 of the 30 experts interviewed. Two more admitted that the Central Bank can raise the key rate by 25 bp to 14.25% per annum. One analyst believes that the regulator has all the arguments in favor of easing monetary policy.
What will happen to the ruble exchange rate next: expert opinions
Alfa-Forex predicts that this week the dollar will fluctuate in the range of 81-85, the euro - ,90-95.7, the yuan - ,12.15-12.7.
Denis Popov, managing expert of the PSB Analytical and Expertise Center, believes that the ruble retains a noticeable potential for strengthening at least in the short term. Popov considers such a scenario likely not only because of the still high geopolitical risk premium, but also because of fundamental factors:
growth of exporters’ revenues against the background of favorable price conditions in global markets; approaching the deadlines for paying fairly large oil and gas fees to the budget for october.
According to the expert, in the coming week, the arguments for strengthening the ruble will become stronger, so the dollar may fall to й80, and the yuan to й12.
However, in order for the ruble to be able to hold in this zone for a long time and, possibly, continue to strengthen, a more noticeable improvement in the geopolitical background is necessary, and this so far seems unlikely. At the end of the year, Denis Popov expects the yuan exchange rate in the range е12.5-12.8.
