Alexander Vucic will resign as president at the end of September. The ruling party nominated him as a candidate for prime minister in the October 25 election.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced his intention to resign as head of state on September 25 or 26. This is reported by RIA Novosti.
The politician explained his departure by the desire to participate in the parliamentary election campaign as an ordinary citizen after returning from the UN General Assembly in New York. The current presidential mandate expires in the spring of 2027.
On Wednesday, the head of state signed decrees on dissolving the Assembly (parliament) and calling early parliamentary elections for October 25. Earlier, the leadership of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party nominated Vucic for the post of head of the Serbian government following the upcoming vote.
