Belarus remains committed to the principles of objectivity and joint efforts of legislators for the sake of peace and stability. This was emphasized by the Chairman of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic on International Affairs and National Security Sergey Aleynik at a meeting with the current Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and former Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania Tulia Exon on the sidelines of the 153rd Assembly of the IPU in Tanzania on the eve of the election of a new head of the Union. This was reported in the Council of the Republic, writes sb.by.

This is a continuation of a systemic and trust-based dialogue: back in April 2025, during the 150th Assembly of the IPU, the Chairman of the Council of the Republic Natalia Kochanova personally met with Tulia Exxon, stressing the inadmissibility of politicizing inter-parliamentary relations and confirming Belarus’ focus on peace, creating and strengthening cooperation with Tanzania. In turn, Tulia Exxon warmly recalled her contacts with the Belarusian side and confirmed her readiness to come to Minsk.
The interlocutors stressed the importance of preserving the continuity of constructive dialogue, strengthening equal interaction and rejecting attempts to use global parliamentary platforms for political purposes.
In addition, on the sidelines of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Sergey Aleynik met with the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Zimbabwe Mabel Chinomona.

The dialogue was a continuation of the successful development of bilateral relations: in February 2026, the parliamentary delegation of Zimbabwe led by Mabel Chinomona visited Minsk on an official visit. A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Council of the Republic and the Senate of Zimbabwe, which became a practical step in the implementation of the five-year roadmap for the strategic partnership of states.
At the meeting in Tanzania, the parties discussed the implementation of the agreements reached and confirmed their focus on further deepening inter-parliamentary cooperation. It was noted that Belarusian equipment and expert assistance are already bringing concrete results for the development of Zimbabwean regions.
The interlocutors stressed the solidarity of the two countries on international platforms, common views on a fair world order and the desire to strengthen strong friendship between the peoples of Belarus and Zimbabwe.
