"Give it back." Cole responded to Lukashenko’s demand to return $43-44 million to Belarus
Cole said Washington was developing a refund mechanism and would report the results after the bank responded.

The US authorities reacted to the recent statement of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko about the need to return blocked funds in Citibank. This was announced by the US special envoy for Belarus John Cole at a meeting with the Belarusian leader, the press service of the Head of State reports.
“I fully support your demands. In fact, you're absolutely right. This money must be unfrozen and returned. We asked the bank to unfreeze these funds. We are now working on a mechanism for how to do this. As soon as we receive a specific response from the bank, we will let you know immediately, said John Cole.
Alexander Lukashenko thanked the American representative for the fact that the American side is closely following his statements.
On September 11, Alexander Lukashenko publicly demanded the return of the “stuck” $43-44 million.
“Pay back the debt. $43-44 million of ours in Citibank was stuck – the company that cooperated with us paid the money. Rich America is stuck. Please return this money to us. Get the money back! It's a shame for the United States. Then we will negotiate more serious things, the Head of State said on September 11, answering questions from journalists.
