"That's absolutely not true." Lukashenko at a meeting with Cole dispelled fakes of fugitives in the West
The head of state urged the American side not to mislead themselves with statements about political prisoners and ongoing repressions.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with US special envoy for Belarus John Cole denied information about the so-called political prisoners. Belta reports.
“John, one more point. There are a lot of conversations before our meeting here about the release of what you call political prisoners. I urge you not to let us go astray. There are no political prisoners in Belarus, because there is no such article in our legislation, the Head of State said.
Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the people for whom the American side petitions are under investigation or are serving sentences in correctional institutions strictly according to the law.
The head of state also dispelled rumors that after the release of some citizens, the authorities allegedly detain twice as many people to continue repression.
Our fugitives are dispersing the topic in the West, and I feel, according to my information, they have convinced you that we are letting someone go here, but while continuing the repression, we are detaining people in this place twice as much. I want to tell you publicly that this is absolutely not true, the Belarusian leader said.
