Delegates gathered to discuss the global parliamentary agenda, issues of inclusiveness and confidence-building between countries. Within the framework of the Assembly, pre-election hearings of candidates for the post of Chairman of the IPU for the period 2026-2029 were held. For the first time in the history of the IPU, the geopolitical group “Eurasia” nominated its candidacy for the post of Chairman of the IPU – Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahib Gafarov. A serious struggle will unfold for the post of head of the IPU - the Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives Milton Dick (from the 12+ group) and Chilean Senator Rojo Edwards Silva (from Latin America and the Caribbean) also presented their programs.

Sergey Rachkov noted the important role of geopolitical groups in the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union:

- They allow taking into account the interests of different regions, coordinating the positions of national delegations and ensuring their full participation in the development of decisions of the organization. The activities of the Eurasia Group contribute to the strengthening of inter-parliamentary dialogue, the search for coordinated approaches and the promotion of common initiatives at the IPU. The balanced participation of all geopolitical groups is an important condition for the work of the organization, taking into account the diversity of positions of states and making decisions reflecting the interests of the entire parliamentary community.

The group members also reviewed key documents and activities of the Assembly, agreed on the positions of delegations on the agenda and discussed the outcome of the IPU Executive Committee meeting.
