Shpakovsky: Belarus is a pioneer in restoring political unity of the post-Soviet space

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will pay a working visit to Turkmenistan on October 8-9 to participate in the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State. In his speech, the Head of State will outline the position of the Belarusian side on topical topics of the CIS activities, as well as talk about the potential and future prospects of this international association. On the air of the program “Budni” on the YouTube channel “SBTV” and “Alfa Radio”, Deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Alexander Shpakovsky discussed the level of interaction between the countries in the CIS and what problematic issues they need to solve.

Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly characterized his own policies and approaches to political activity as sincere. Partners in the international arena note that the Head of State always gives objective assessments, avoiding veiled statements. Speaks directly and essentially, – said the guest of the studio.

Alexander Shpakovsky noted that the CIS is still a very important interstate platform both for our country and for other participating states:

- It should be noted that the CIS has nine member countries, Turkmenistan is an associate member of the organization, Mongolia has observer status. Moldova has announced that the procedure for its withdrawal from the CIS has begun. But it does not plan to withdraw from many treaties, as does Ukraine. Therefore, even for these countries that adhere to the opposite geopolitical orientation and for some reason consider it necessary that if they are moving towards integration with the collective West, the European Union, they should slam the doors and loudly declare their withdrawal from the CIS. But from the point of view of law and trade and economic relations, many CIS treaties continue to operate, because these countries see their unconditional expediency and benefit. Let me remind you that more than 280 multilateral agreements have been concluded within the CIS. They're comprehensive. And no matter how much one criticizes the CIS, for example, for a certain bureaucratic clumsiness, for the multidirectional interests of the participating states (after all, countries may have different points of view on certain processes), this platform is the most important direction of multilateral diplomacy. The CIS Executive Committee is in Minsk, because in the early 1990s the role of Belarus and the ability of our country to organize interstate, integration processes, moderation of conflicts and so on were obvious. Our country continues to fulfil its obligations responsibly.

Speaking about the upcoming speech of the Head of State, the deputy drew attention to:

Alexander Lukashenko always gives objective assessments, forecasts, scenarios, warns about some undesirable consequences that may occur if decisions are not taken in the direction of unity, strengthening our alliance, etc. Belarus is a pioneer in restoring the political and economic unity of the post-Soviet space. Our President began to talk about this and act at a time when everyone dreamed of a civilized divorce. Because the CIS was characterized as a platform for a civilized divorce, we had to diverge in different directions. But it doesn't happen. Someone will take over this vacuum. There were illusions about the possibility of painless integration of the post-Soviet space into the Western system. But it turned out that we are waiting there not in the role that the ruling circles would like in the early 90s, intoxicated with the illusion that the “democratic West” is ready to accept us as full members of a large family of civilized nations. It turned out that these peoples are not quite civilized, and there are no families, and they are ready to accept us as maids. Therefore, we are talking about using the existing integration formats for mutual development and mutual benefit in politics and the economy. It is very important for Belarus to combine the capabilities of the CIS, the Eurasian Economic Union and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. We also have an integration form, which is a priority development project – the Union State.

The talk show “Budney” is released on weekdays in the morning on “Alpha Radio”. Each issue discusses the most relevant topics from the life of the country and the world. Political scientists, scientists, public figures and journalists of leading media participate in the discussions.
