October 18 – Father’s Day: beautiful pictures and greeting cards

On the third Sunday of October (in 2026 it is October 18), Russia celebrates Father’s Day. The holiday received official status only in 2021 by presidential decree, although in many regions, from Cherepovets to the Altai Territory, the popes were honored long before that. Today, festivals like Papa Fest, family quests will be held throughout the country, and regional awards will be awarded to fathers with many children.

The history of the holiday began in 1909 in the American Spokane. A local resident, Sonora Dodd, listened to a Mother’s Day sermon and wondered why there is no day dedicated to popes. Her father, veteran William Smart, single-handedly raised six children after his wife's death. Sonora drafted the petition, and local authorities supported it. In 1966, the holiday became national in the United States, and then stepped into more than 30 countries.

By the way, world traditions are very different:

In Finland, the day begins with a visit to cemeteries to light candles in memory of the departed men, and in the evening the family gathers at a common table.

In Australia, it is customary to get out for picnics: it is believed that joint rest in nature is the strongest link between generations.

Italians consider this day the main men's holiday and traditionally give the fathers expensive perfume or good wine.

In the Baltic countries, children make crafts in schools to please not only fathers, but also grandfathers.
