Actor Johnny Depp opened a large exhibition of his paintings and sculptures in London on October 13. The artwork is on display at the Halcyon Gallery on New Bond Street.
According to Deadline, Depp’s British exhibition with floral compositions, psychological portraits and fantasy images is a continuation of his international display at the Shanghai Museum of Modern Art.
“What draws us to these works is their emotional immediacy,” said Paul Green, founder of the Halcyon Gallery.
The gallery features paintings, graphics, sculpture and collages created by the actor over decades. The works are inspired by characters from his film roles - outsiders and antiheroes. They explore the world of those who remain outside the bounds of conventional norms.
Among the exhibits in London is Depp's first sculpture called "The Rabbit Man." The idea came from the actor’s son Jack, who painted the image at the age of five. The unusual figure in the children's drawing reminded Johnny Depp of a recurring dream from his own childhood - at about the same age, five or six years old, he also saw the image of a human rabbit. He repeatedly appeared in other works of Depp: on sketches, paintings and engravings.
