A resident of Moscow for a year and a half repeatedly transferred money to remote fraudsters, told TASS the head of the department for combating cybercrimes of the capital’s interior Ministry Anton Kononenko.
“The record time during which remote fraudsters managed to deceive a person and steal his savings is a year and a half,” he said.
After the first transfer, the victim realized that he had been deceived, and went to the police, after which a criminal case was opened on fraud. The man explained the basics of digital security and the rules of communication with the unknown. However, during the investigation, he again answered the call of a stranger and again lost money. Such cases have been repeated several times.
“Remote scammers understand when a person is influenced, so they try to be in contact with him as long as possible,” Kononenko concluded. According to him, people who are inclined to succumb to such influences, if possible, should not be left alone.
In October, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko said that by the end of eight months of 2026, the number of crimes on the Internet in Russia decreased by a third - for the first time in all the time of observations. According to the Interior Ministry at the beginning of September, more than 322,000 cybercrimes were registered in the country, which is 32% less than a year earlier, while 98.8 thousand such crimes were solved.
