The interior Ministry denied reports about the right of traffic police officers to deprive without trial
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia denied the publication with the headlines “Safety officers from March 2027 will be able to deprive drivers of their rights”.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia denied the publication with the headlines “Safety officers from March 2027 will be able to deprive drivers of their rights”. The department said that such an interpretation creates a false impression of granting the State Traffic Inspectorate the authority to deprive the right of management without a court decision.
The ministry explained that from March 1, 2027, new rules for medical examination of drivers will come into force. Medical reports will be issued electronically and placed in the federal register in a secure loop of the Unified State Information System in the field of health care. The information will then be transmitted to the MIA.
If the driver reveals medical contraindications or previously not established restrictions on driving, he will be given three months for an extraordinary medical examination. If contraindications or restrictions are confirmed or the driver evades the procedure, the State Traffic Inspectorate will terminate his right to drive the relevant categories of transport.
“Termination of the right to drive a vehicle does not mean deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle,” the Interior Ministry stressed. In this case, the certificate will be returned after eliminating the factors identified during the medical examination.
Deprivation of driving licenses, unlike their termination on medical grounds, is an administrative punishment and is appointed by the court for gross or systematic violations of traffic rules. To return the certificate after such a punishment, it is necessary to pass a theoretical examination.
The Interior Ministry urged the editors to avoid arbitrary interpretations of legal norms and to contact the ministry’s press center for comments.
