Polish airline LOT has suspended some flights within the winter schedule due to the rising cost of aviation fuel, reports Polsat News with reference to the press secretary of the carrier Krzysztof Mochulski.
According to the representative of the airline, the share of fuel costs has increased significantly.
“LOT is suspending some flights as part of its winter schedule. There are several reasons, but the main one is that in February the cost of fuel accounted for 25% of all airline expenses, today this figure can reach 40%, Mochulsky said.
LOT Polish Airlines is the national airline of Poland, founded in 1929. The company operates flights to 120 destinations in 50 countries.
Among the routes affected by the changes are flights from Warsaw to Bologna, as well as from Krakow to Rome, Madrid and Barcelona. According to the spokesman, the airline admits the possibility of restoring these destinations by the summer of next year.
Earlier, on October 17, the FT wrote that major airlines say that high fuel prices since the start of the war with Iran have become the “new normal”. Business executives say they are bracing for years of hardship over fears that passengers will not want to put up with further price hikes needed to offset rising costs.
In June, the press service of Rosaviatsiya told RBC that due to the situation on the global fuel market, foreign carriers began to refuel aircraft at Russian airports more often to reduce costs.
