You can start practicing rhythmic gymnastics in adolescence, but we are already talking primarily about mastering the basics and participating in club competitions, said ten-time world champion in rhythmic gymnastics Olga Kapranova on the air of the program “ChEZ” on the RBC TV channel.

"As an adult, well, as a teenager, yes, we're not talking straight over 20, a girl can come and learn the basics and participate in club competitions, thereby gaining rankings," she said.

Kapranova noted that in rhythmic gymnastics, athletes on average complete their professional career in 21-22 years. After that, they can continue to play, for example, in the student league.

According to her, the late start of classes in itself is not harmful to health. Why? This is useful, said Kapranova, adding that the “golden mean” is important in loads.

RBC launched a special project - "Autumn Marathon". Let’s look at the sports industry from different angles: from the funding of federations to sales of sports equipment, corporate health programs and investment attractiveness of sports projects. On October 22, at 14:00 Moscow time, a direct line with the Minister of the Government of Moscow, the head of the sports department of Moscow Alexei Kondarantsev will be held on the air of RBC and Radio RBC. Send questions to the hotline through the form on the site.

A professional career in rhythmic gymnastics often ends at a young age. In February 2026, 18-year-old champion of the BRICS Games Diana Chugunikhina announced her retirement, while saying that she would continue to participate in concerts and training camps and conduct master classes. Dina and Arina Averina retired at the age of 25, and a year later, Dina Averina said she had no plans to return to professional sports, saying her "time is over.".
