From October 25, the mode of operation of Russian checkpoints on the border with Estonia will change. The reasons were the transition of Estonia to winter time and the current restrictions on working hours of adjacent Estonian checkpoints, the press service of the FCS of Russia reports.
Passage of individuals through MAPP "Ivangorod" in the Leningrad region, as well as individuals and transport through MAPP "Kunichina Gora" and "Shumilkino" in the Pskov region will be carried out from 08:00 to 20:00 MSK. At the same time, Russian customs posts will continue to work around the clock. Passengers who will pass the control from the Estonian side around 20:00 GMT, will be able to enter the territory of Russia.
St. Petersburg Customs expects an increase in passenger traffic through Ivangorod due to school holidays. The Agency warns of possible queues both on the Russian side and in the Estonian Narva. This may be due to lengthy monitoring procedures by Estonian authorities.
“Some citizens do not have time to cross the border during the hours of operation of the adjacent Narva-1 checkpoint and remain until the opening of the checkpoint the next day,” said Yuri Plotnikov, head of St. Petersburg customs. The restrictions affect the Estonian checkpoints Narva-1, Koidula and Luhamaa.
In August, the Estonian government approved the proposal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the indefinite extension of the 12-hour mode of operation of road checkpoints on the border with Russia, railway border checkpoints began to work on a similar schedule.
Earlier, on June 15, Estonia reduced the operating time of the Narva-1 checkpoint by four hours. Now the pedestrian crossing works from 07:00 to 19:00 instead of 23:00, while the Russian point “Ivangorod” continues to work around the clock.
