The peak of the Orionids meteor shower was announced in the RAS

The Orionids meteor shower will reach a peak intensity on the night of October 22, the press service of the Solar Activity Laboratory of the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy OF Sciences reported.

As the astronomers explained, the radiant — the point in the sky where the meteors will be visible — is in the constellation of Orion. It can be found on the "belt" of three bright stars or on the star Betelgeuse of red color.

The Orionids are an annual meteor shower formed by the tail of Halley's Comet. At the peak of its activity, up to 20 meteors appear in the sky per hour. Orionids can be observed annually from October 2 to November 7. The stream got its name from the constellation Orion, from which meteors “fly” for an observer from Earth.

According to the IKI Ras, the starfall will last all night. The Moscow Planetarium reported that the Orionid meteor shower will reach its maximum by the evening of October 21, Moscow time.

According to IKI Ras, the stream can also be seen in the city, but only the brightest meteors can be seen. "In general, meteor showers are usually visible for several days, so the chances will be tomorrow or the day after tomorrow," the astronomers added.
