Analysts reported an increase in investments in fitness in Russia by 30%
Large fitness clubs attracted the bulk of the investment, although 71% of new properties were small studios. DDX Fitness accounted for 53% of all investments
Investments in fitness facilities in Russia by the end of 2025 increased by 30.5%, from 27.9 billion to 36.4 billion rubles. Such data are given in the study of the ATRE agency “More sports means more money?”, which was reviewed by RBC. The calculation includes investments in the creation of facilities without taking into account the construction of buildings.
The main volume of investments fell on fitness clubs: investments in them increased from 23.9 billion to 33 billion rubles, or 38%. At the same time, funding for fitness studios, on the contrary, decreased from 4 billion to 3.4 billion rubles, by 15%. About 53% of all investments in fitness facilities came from the DDX Fitness network, the authors of the study note.
Despite the fact that the bulk of the investment went to large club projects, the number of new facilities led by small studios. According to the National Fitness Community (NFS), they accounted for 71% of discoveries in 2025. Classic fitness clubs provided 22%, and multifunctional facilities with swimming pools - 7%.
At the same time, the Russian market of fitness services continued to grow. According to FitnessData, which the authors of the report refer to, its volume in 2025 reached 316.5 billion rubles. against 262.8 billion rubles. a year earlier. The growth was about 20%. At the same time, from 50 to 55% of the monetary growth was provided by an increase in prices, and the number of customers increased by about 500 thousand, to at least 7.5 million people. A separate growing direction became fitness studios. Their turnover for the year increased from 36.4 billion to 46.3 billion rubles, and the market share of fitness services reached 14.6% against 13.8% in 2024. Thus, studios continue to increase revenue and the number of facilities, although the amount of investment in their opening has decreased.
The payment system for fitness services is also changing. Sales through regular automatic payments increased from 17.9 billion rubles in 2024 to 31.2 billion rubles in 2025. In two years, this figure has almost tripled. The share of such payments in sales of club cards reached 14.5%, and the number of customers using this format was about 1.4 million people.
The authors of the study note that the growth of revenue and customer base does not guarantee an increase in the profitability of the fitness business. New clubs require significant investment before attracting enough visitors, and operators incur fixed costs for rent, maintenance and staff. The report cites the DDX Fitness network as an example. According to ACRA rating agency, by September 2026, it had 178 active clubs, another 25 were preparing for opening, and the client base exceeded 1 million people. At the same time, ACRA assessed the company’s free cash flow as very weak due to high capital costs.
In general, the expenses of organizations reporting to the Ministry of Sport on physical education and sports in 2025 reached 1 trillion rubles, increasing by almost 29% over the year. Of this amount, 88.7%, or 894.2 billion rubles, were provided by budget sources. The report’s authors emphasize that the indicator reflects the expenses of organizations covered by state reporting, and not the entire turnover of the commercial sports industry.
Earlier, the Executive Director of DDX Fitness Elena Ivanova and the founder of the network of studios Rock the Cycle Oleg Rudakov told on radio RBC about the cost of opening fitness facilities. According to them, the launch of one DDX Fitness club costs from 250 million rubles, while the opening of the Rock the Cycle studio requires about 30 million rubles. At the same time, both networks develop models with regular payment for classes.
