Interior Ministry warns of fraudsters falsifying teachers’ voices using AI
Fraudsters use artificial intelligence (AI) to forge the voices of teachers and classroom leaders and lure money from parents of schoolchildren.
Fraudsters use artificial intelligence (AI) to forge the voices of teachers and classroom leaders and lure money from parents of schoolchildren. This is reported by TASS with reference to the materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
According to the Agency, scammers can send messengers voice messages that imitate the voice of the teacher. In them, they report an alleged problem and ask to urgently transfer money or name the code from the SMS.
The Interior Ministry noted that the main danger of the scheme is that a fake voice may not differ from the real one.
The Agency recommends that parents do not rush to comply with such requests and first check the information. To do this, you should call the teacher on a known number and clarify whether he really asked for help.
In early October, the Ministry of Internal Affairs named the most common schemes of fraud using deepfakes. In particular, attackers fake people’s voices and appearances to impersonate relatives or representatives of organizations and lure money. Another scheme is blackmail with the help of generated compromising materials.
The department warned that the transfer of money to fraudsters does not guarantee the removal of such materials. Victims are advised to keep correspondence, audio and video recordings, as well as documents on money transfers.
